JK 1EM Exclusive French Horn Mouthpiece

JK horn mouthpieces have a numbering system from 0 to 4.

Mouthpieces with the number 0 have a rim of 18.50 mm, and this diameter decreases by 0.50 mm with each number, so mouthpieces with number 4 have a diameter of 16.50 mm.

They also have a letter from A to F.

Mouthpieces with the letter A have the deepest cup and largest throat, while the letter F has the shallowest cup and smallest throat.

Then there are the letters M or K.

M mouthpieces are a new version, with a U-shaped cup, and K are the older ones with a V-shaped cup.

The M series is distinguished by a bright sound with clear timbre. This is made possible by a rounder and flatter cup.

Conversely, the deeper, conical-shaped cup of the K series produces a classic dark timbre.

Air flows more freely in K models, so if there is some air resistance, it is advisable to play with K models.

The rim of the mouthpiece is flat in the center.

The most intermediate mouthpiece of all is the 2DM or 2DK; the rim is 17.50 mm, which makes it good for horn players with lips ranging from thin to slightly thick.

This mouthpiece offers a good compromise between high and low registers.

If more sound is needed in the mid-low register, letters A, B, or C are recommended.

Conversely, if good control of the high register is needed, models E and F are advised.

For horn players with thick lips, a good option is the 1FK or 1FM mouthpiece.

These mouthpieces have a generous rim and a high cup, which allows for maintaining the high register despite the large rim.

For horn players with thin lips, models 3 or 4 are recommended.
